auto hub playing up again on my 1992 solid axle F75, now it has started to make a whirring noise whan the vehicle gets above 40mph......bring it to a stop , reverse a few feet and set off again and it's quiet till we get to 40 or maybe 50 then it starts again.......... Any Ideas guys!
Is it possible to take these off completely, lock it up somehow and have the front diff turning as it drives or will that cause any transmission wind up.
If it was an old Land Rover then I'd know what I was doing!
Any advice greatfully received.

its engaging at speed by the sounds of it, there activated by the movement of the halfshafts when in 4wd, most people sensibly bin the autos for manual hubs as there more reliable, strip em clean em, see if it affects it, theres a whole how to on this site about them.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

auto hubs
Thanks for the reply.
I was thinking that manual ones might be best after reading the posts on here.
I was wondering if it was possible to set them in Lock position and weld the bloody thing up, making it like an old series Land Rover, Just use the button on the dash when 4 wheel drive is needed I'm not bothered about a couple of extra MPG that I might get with free wheel as it's not used for long journies....> or would that not work.
auto hubs no more. up and running in an hour!
OK Thanks for the help Lads,
New manual hubs for the F75 are available from http://www.ks-international.com/product_detail.php?pid=MjkzNw==&mcat=NDc=&catid=NjYw
if anyone is interesded for about £100.
Now I needed to get this old tub up and running today so I have stripped the auto hubs that were not working and welded them up. I don't know how to put pictures on here but if anyone wants some to see what is done and what part to weld then just email me and I'll send you a ZIP folder .......It's an easy job taking only 30 minutes a side and everything is working fine and with the open front diff 4 wheel drive is engaged by the button on the dash for high range. I don't use it for long journeys so don't expect to notice the slight difference in MPG that I might lose!.....hey I've just saved £100 so there is a smile back on my face.
