Forum:
I've been taking the fourtrak offroading, thinking about making an A-frame to fasten to the front of it, just wondering whether when the engines off will the power
steering allow the wheels to move freely Will it be legal to tow it on the A-frame, its purely for offroading, no mot or tax.

In theory (legaly speaking) a car being towed by A-fram should be compleatly road legal itself. Also the breaks should work from the tow vehicle, or be opperated by the towing asembly (like a trailer). As for the stearing, powere assistence or no will make no differance.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
'A' Frame towing
I think Nev may be correct. I was told by a friend of mine who worked for one of the big breakdown companies that any vehicle towed on an 'A' frame must be Road legal, MOT'd etc, & it is only acceptable if the vehicle is broken down.
I think the point about the brakes is also valid, as theoretically the towed vehicle is a trailer & as such would come under the trailer regs.
I must admit I don't know this for certain, but I,mn sure there's someone out there who can tell us for definate.

You can only tow a car that is not road legal, by having only two wheels on the ground, thats why cars get towed with the little trailers that pick up their front two wheels (it may be worth seeing if you can pick one up off ebay for a couple of hundred quid). If the weight of a towed vehicle/trailer exceeds 750kg, it must have its own braking system that is triggered whilst towing, I think some users of a frames attach a cable from the tow bracket (the braked ones that slide forward to apply brakes) to the car in someway, though I'm not sure how it works. You must have some vehicle to tow round a fourtrak, or do you have one shiny and on e dirty?
a-frames
i had an sj on a a-frame and one of the wheels locked up on the left front and it would not go any were so i dont premote them but its up to you
