drivers door light switch not working

Forum:

Hi, The door switch is not operating the interior light, I've taken it out and cleaned it - just seems to make a single wire connection - all looks fine but still not working. Passenger side fine.

Any ideas Unknw

Thanks

Have had this on my YRV. Best

Have had this on my YRV. Best thing to do is try swapping the switch over first with one of the others, to check it's the switch. That's if you have a 4-5 door model of car? By the way what is your car? Not mentioned on the post or nor is it mentioned in your public profile.
On mine it was the connector which had gone rusty and lost it's connection.

Hi, the car is a fourtrak 1998 2.8 tdi 3 door.

I'll try swapping with the passenger side but the switch does look really clean and appears to be functioning ok.

Thanks

Bad switch most likely.

The single wire is +. The screw holding the switch onto the car is the -. When the door is opened the spring plunger connector closes to complete the circuit.

Remove the switch and do a conductivity test. Either a meter check or just connect a 12V bulb in series to the battery. One lead to earth [car body] and other lead with bulb in series to the + on the battery.

If the bulb does not illuminate [assuming the bulb is OK] the fault is the switch - possibly rusted at the connector or the fixing screw is failing to contact the vehicle's body/earth. Usually the fixing location is rusted.

If the bulb lights and each of the above have been checked for conductivity, then the fault lies within the cable from the door to the wiring loom.
