Sportrak 1.6 timing belt issue

Forum:

Hi peeps, posting on here for the first time.
My boy has bought a Sportrak 1.6 petrol 1996 and had it a couple of days and the timing belt has slipped, all caused by a broken key in the crank pulley from what I can see. Managed to get a pulley and a belt kit, re timed it (just to double check before pulling it down) and yup no compression so heads got to come off.

Can someone please recommend a good parts supplier for bits as I think the poor fella is going to require some gaskets and valves too :(.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Kind regards

Chris (a dad with a spanner or three)

How about the distributor timing.

You certain the distributor has been set up correctly? It is common to get the distributor set to fire on the exhaust rather than the compression. Did you set Number 1 cylinder to compression [finger placed over the spark plug hole and feel for the tdc of compression stroke] whilst replacing/setting the distributor's timing?
