Have you done a body lift recently. Have you got a manual select transfer case. Check that the noise isnt really the transfercase lever fouling on something, or a weakened indent spring, and the lever is moving back, in effect, trying to enguage 4wd, and the chattering is a stationary gear grinding against a moving gear. I had this problem after my body lift, the rubber boot was squashed too much between the two levers, and the pressure was pushing my transfer lever backwards.

Is that 2" shacles & a body lift? A body lift being when you lift the body up from the chassis.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

RE;bodylift

Just 2 " extended spring hanger shackles.

Ok, so its not a body lift, so my original answer doesnt apply. Did this noise start after the shackles were fitted? If so, then it could actually be driveshafts and their angles. You may have to look at lowering your gearbox/transfer case crossmember, to lessen the angle of the rear driveshaft. Firstly, try removing the rear driveshaft, put it in 4wd, and go for a bit of a drive. See if the noise is still there. If it isnt, then I would assume driveshaft angle. This sounds like its going to be trial and error.

4trak probs

Today I put it in 4wd high without the freewheeling hubs in, think noise went off.Any ideas Unknw

Ok, so I go back to the possibility of a weak indent spring. Letting the 4wd lever move, and the moving 2wd gears contacting with the stationary 4wd gears. Try tying the 4wd lever forward, in 2wd, and going for a drive.

Re : Gearbox noise.

Had it to my local 4trak place, mech came out with me to listen to the noise, he thinks there is a bearing going in the gearbox. Can't tell me 4 certain whats going on unless he strips it. Gonna cost me a bomb I think Sad
