wheel bearing retainer nut knackered!!! oh woe... i need more help please! 1990 fourtrak

Forum:

Hi all, the demon that bought a lemon here ( a lesson......be carefull wot u buy on ebay!!!!):(

front nearside wheel bearing gone...have had a mate take it off to change it......the nut on the outside of the bearing, that is apparently used to adjust and tighten the bearing has been beaten tight with a hammer and chisel ( oh why didnt the previous conman of an owner just cough up 25 quid for a new bearing???)}:)
Subsequently its threaded and useless. the nut in question ( and i dont mean the guy that sold it to me ) is large ( 55mm from outer edges ) and thin. Have had a quote from daihatsu....and its gonna cost more than the damned bearing itself!!! for a nut???!!! Scratch one-s head
anyone know where i may be able to get one cheaper?...tried all the scrappies for miles around ( live in darkest depths of devon) and not a fourtrak anywhere.:'(

cheers Help

There's a bloke advertising all kinds of Fourtrak stuff on Ebay..... OK you're wincing already at the thought of Ebay but he might be able to help. Based in Brough near Hull. Offering to post stuff to folks, getting my headlamp adjusting knob from him.

A little bit of info. There are two of those nuts, seperated by a lock washer. The inside nut ajdusts the bearing, then the washer, then the second nut. Tighten both, then bend the lock washer tabs over, one over each nut. It doesnt surprise me that the nut is corrupted, a hammer and chisel or screwdriver are standard tools for adjusting /removing them.
