Drinking Problem

Forum:

I am the latest proud owner of an '88 Fourtrak 2.8TD that has a bit of a thirst probelm. It has covered about 100k and has just had a new fuel pump fitted. I have noticed that it idles pretty high (about 1100 rpm) but am reluctant to change this until I am sure that the two things are related....

I know that the guys from OPEC love the vehicle as at present it is providing them with roughly 50% of their revenue therefore............

Any help gratefully received!!!

You should get around the 28M

You should get around the 28MPG/10lt-100km.

Out of interest I just checked my first tank mileage, got around 24mpg but I have had a couple of sessions of turbo testing :-).

It's been mixed driving, short runs, bit of motorway so I'm not unimpressed.

Been using the tickover adjuster when engine is cold, handbook says set to 650 rpm once warmed up.

Drinking Probelm

thanks for that mate.

Took it off road properly today for the first time and was blown away but it, the missus got it leaned over enough to get a wing mirror touching the floor and we had to climb out the window, but we got it out eventually!!!!!

So where is this idle screw adjuster then, I'll give that a go......

Look on top of the fuel pump,

Look on top of the fuel pump, right hand side of motor. Look for the throttle cable joining the pump. There is a lever on the pump where the throttle cable attaches to. In front of that, there should be a bolt, and locknut. This is the idle speed adjustment.

On my TDX it's down on the right hand side of the steering column, has a little choke symbol on it, just screw it in or out while sitting at the wheel. Guess it depends on the model though.

Just bought an R reg Ssangyong Korando, need to sell it on quickly so it's up for £3995 if anyone is interested for towing. It's got a 5 cylinder mercedes engine and gearbox and drives very well.

fuel consumption

Put another DL motor in my F75 last month and I also thought 10km per ltr was good but I am now getting 12km per ltr and good performance. The motor came from the local wreckers and is an early DL with gears and no cam belt and no turbo. Love to know what is different so I can do it to the wife's Rocky? Might check the compression.
I think the manual says idle should be around 800 rpm.
