F20 roll cage

Forum:

Can anybody tell me if Roll cages built for Suzuki SJ's are suitable for my F20 soft top. Brand new to this field, no idea but willing to give anything a go and get my vehicle truly off road-worthy (spacers/lifts/winches/snorkle u-name it):help:

An SJ is some what narrowere

An SJ is some what narrowere than an F20. However a roll cage is not difficalt to make (just time consuming), if you can get access to a welder & a pipe bender.

For a very basice roll bar, you need a rear hoop (fitted right behind the front seats). This should be brased diagonaly from drivers side top to passenger side base. The bottom of the hoop cane be on legs, but MUST join straight to the chassiss if you want it for use and not just for show. There should also be two diagonal stays from the top of the hoop, down to the chassiss behind the hoop. The closer to 45 degrees these stays are the stronger the roll bar will be. This should be made from seamless C.D.S. (cold drawn steel), though scafold pole will do (but not as stronge due to the seam).

Once this main hoop is in place you can add to it in many ways. Just remember that you want triangles where ever you can, as these will stop the cage from colapsing on you.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Thanks

Finally, an excuse to put myself on a welding course at the local college Smile
