This does happen to be quite a problem with these cars, as there have been a few being advertised with this fault.

Redex.
Have you tried freeing it with redex or light engine oil? Raise the revs and pour slowly into the carb direct into the petrol/air mixture and watch the blue smoke from the exhaust. Leave for a while then rev the engine. It will free sticking valves - method used when I was a student! Good luck.
