You dn't say if it's the fuel
You dn't say if it's the fuel injection or carb model.
If it's the carb model, it could be the choke that's causing the problem or the engine might be running rich.
If you have the fuel injection engine, it may be the injectors are blocked.

Have you checked your HT leads. Old HT leads made my other halfs sporty run shite, it misfired, didn't pull below 2 to 2.5 krpm, ran rough on idle. I checked the leads, they were well old so I replaced them and now its as sweet as a nut.
