please help anyone i have a fourtrack rocky 2.8 td. and havin some troubs wid wheel shake iv had wheels balanced to know avail and now put it to me wheel bearings. how much free play should one have? and if posible to what torque should the bearing nut be. many thanks to any advise ....... woody

There should be no to very, very little free play in the wheel barings. As for a torque, no idea. However I was tourt a trick many moons ago that works for any 4x4/truck. Tighten the wheel baring nut as tight as you can with an ordinary length socket bar (not crack bar), then back the nut off one flat (Ie 1 sixth of a turn).

When you had the wheels balanced, did they tell you if the wheels had any runout (wobble/buckled) They should have picked it up doing the balance. What about wear in the draglink/tierod ends/steering componants.

wheel wobbles

I had a similar problem when I purchased a F75 for my wife. Balanced and changed wheels without success. However I managed to acquire a pair of second hand after market front leaf springs and after fitting these the shakes disappeared. I do not know why but it fixed things.

many thanks u guys for givin me well worth advise. found the prob it turns out knackard wheel bearin and half shot leaf spring. gonna try this here full tight and back off nut bit. and yep new leaf springs as well. cheers gain nice to know their peeps out their that are willin to help. thumbs up to ya

hi woody,for leaf springs try milner 4x4 in matlock derbys, they do mail order, i got my springs from there complete with poly bushes hangers and bolts......cost me half the price quoted by my local garage for springs alone !! ( you can find them on google search!)
