I have an old, clogged fuel filter that did exactly the same thing, and you can have it for free!
It was amazing how gently I treated the accelerator pedal until the fuel filter was replaced. Any sudden pressure would throw the vehicle into a caughing, spluttering and backfiring fit.

I don't belive that something
I don't belive that something that cheap and simple to fit could posibly work, or as you say everyone would have one. However as they are so cheap and easy I have desided to get one and fit it, just to see. Not too much of a loss if it does nothing.
I'll keep you posted, though aledgedly you need to do 500 miles after instelation, so it'll be a week or three.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

First of all, DON'T BYE IT!!!
First of all, DON'T BYE IT!!!!!!! OK got that out of my system. I don't know if it will do anything yet, as I haven't done the 500 miles since fitting it (yes I did fit it, thought I should after having gone to the troble of bying it).
The reason I say don't bye it has nothing to do with weather it works or not however. Even if it does work (which I doubt), the 'kit' consists of a strip of flexible magnet. The kind used to make removible signes, to attach to cars etc. & a (very small) cable tie, in case the doble sided sticky tape on the strip doesn't hold.
The parts to make this kit must be worth all of 50p.
If it does actualy make any diffrence to my fule ecconamy I'll let you know. Don't hold your breath.
