4 wd high ratio popping out of gear

Forum:

Hi,

Daihatsu fourtrak f reg petrol

I have a problem with 4wd in high ratio it drives fine with no problems in low ratio 4wd, but when i transfer to high ratio 4wd it jumps out of gear after i travel for a few 100 yards. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Any help appreciated

There are a couple of things

There are a couple of things which can result in this problem. The sprung ball baring that popes into place to hold the ratio lever may have fallen out. The 2 pronged 'falk' that actualy does the transfure gets worn. Nether of these problems will threaten the overall working of our gearbox.
Hoever as a practical type who likes to not take things apart without a damn good reason, I sugest you use a bungy cord to hold the ratio lever back in the apropriat position when in 2wd high. A bodge I know, but known to work fine for years at a time.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
