Vibration in 4wheel drive

Forum:

bought a 89fourtrak last september for towing horsebox, have had no major problems so far but would like to know what speed i should drive in 4H and 4L? When in 4wheel drive for the first time last week just to try it i got bad vibrations at 25mph on the open road,i stopped and put back to 2H then tried offroad down tractor tracks in 4L and it was fine although 10 to 15mph was my max.I have no intention of driving in 4 wheel drive alot, only for getting out of muddy fields with trailer but would like to know if anyone has had the same problems.

Check your front driveshaft.

Check your front driveshaft. Both universal joints and the spline. Id guess its there, seeing as how you only get it in 4wd. There should be no movement in any of these components.

THANKS

Thanks for your replys, will check drive shafts next chance i get.If there is play on them is this hard to sort?. I get a vibration at about 55mph in 2H,had wheels balanced but made no difference after putting on as much weights as the wheels would take maybe the two problems are related.my 4traks not exactly perfect so you'll probably here from me alot.sorted reverse light already with information from this forum,so chears to all

Same deal, probably driveline

Same deal, probably driveline vibration. Either uni's or spline. Also, check the driveshafts are correctly aligned, that is, the holes in the yokes, where the uni cups fit into are aligned with each other. When the tailshaft is viewed end on, along its length, if these two holes at one end are at 12 and 6 oclock, then at the other end of the tailshaft, they also have to be at 12 and 6 oclock. Anywhere else and you will end up with a vibration. The uni's and spline should also be well greased. If they are dry, then wear will be excessive.
