I have a Fourtrak TDX 1999. I have engaged 4 wheel drive to extracate myself from a muddy field and now it will not disengage.
Any suggestions please. The drive light on the dash is on all the time and the steering feels awful. is it safe to drive.I live in shetland and we have no dealers here.

have you tried reversing a few feet as you are supposed to reverse to disengage hubs if they r the automatic locking ones . regards mark

it is not recomended to drive on road with 4wd engaged

Thanks for that Mark but yes I have tried reversing but to no avail. Someone mentioned that a vacuum switch may be stuck but the weather is too bad at the moment to get it up on stands, and I'm not sure what i am looking for in the first place.

think the vacuum switch is on the gear box there's a pipe that runs from it to the alternator if i remember right
