Daihatsu F55P Oil or Grease in the main 2 Steering Ball joints.

Forum:

I have a Daihatsu F55 and I find it hard to work on because I can't get any info on it anywhere, i'd love to get a MANUAL for it, in fact does anyone know where I would get one from? I don't care if I have to import it as I'm in Australia.

Anyway back to the problem I don't know what to put in my steering joints Oil or Grease, here's a pic below

it has that Inspection Hole which is a 24mm socket.

here's a Picture of the whole vehicle .

The Scat has the same as the later Rockys. Grease is what you put in there, not oil. The earlier F20's actually had a grease nipple in the plug. I have modified mine so it has one fitted. By the looks of your pic, yours could be in a bit of a bad way. The ball part of the axle housing should be nice and clean, and hard chromed. Yours looks a tad rusty. You could pull the swivel housing apart, give the ball a good going over with emery paper, and replace the felt and rubber knuckle seal.

yea I did just give it a good de-grease, and I have just been bush bashin so it's expected to be a little dirty, what grease do you recommend I use? same as in the steering ball joints? how easy is it to take apart? I don't have any manual so i'm not really sure how to take them apart, I'm really looking for a manual.

thanks, Josh.

I did a write up on how to change the king pin bearings on a F75 here. To do that, you have to pull the complete knuckle/swivel housing apart.

The front ends of all the F series Daihatsus are pretty much the same, so follow the directions given there. Its a pretty easy job. Probably take a couple of hours each side to do. I use wheel bearing grease in my CV joints/swivel housings.

As for a manual, good luck. It took me about 6 years to track down a manual for my Rocky, and even then it isnt a ganuine one. No one made them, except Daihatsu, and the last F75 one sold in Oz about 5 years ago.
