engine sump needed

Forum:

hi all, does anyone have or know where theres a engine sump for a 1989 2.8 fourtrak.preferably as close to fife as possible.the previous owner had patched it up but after trying myself to patch his patch ive given up any help would be appreciated. BILL

If no luck getting another on

If no luck getting another one, I would take it to a workshop to get it braised, provided the base metal of the sump is still OK.

Im now wondering how its possible to puncture a 2.8 sump.

sump found

thanks for your replys but i managed to find a sump out of a r reg engine that had blown from a local freind.this one seems ok but its got a dent from the inside out from where part of the piston hit it, as for my own one i'm not sure if its more corosion than a dent from the previous owner.anoying that i will have to replace gasket again.will try and find time to fit this weekend.thanks again

You can get away with reusing

You can get away with reusing the old gasket, provided it isnt too badly damaged. Undo all the bolts, then carefully slide a thin, sharp knife between the mating surface on the bottom of the block, and the gasket. Very carefully slice along to release the gasket. Now use some sort of gasket cement to reseal.

I reckon the whole single use gasket thing is a scam, to make us spend more money on spare parts. Amd from my experience here, gaskets for Daihatsus seem to be about the most expensive part of a job, so I reuse, or make my own where possible.

Cheers
David
