Gearbox/Transfer box

I am losing oil from the rear prop output of the transfer box, however whenever I check the oil level it is o.k. Can oil transfer from the gearbox to the transfer box. The logical answer is no as they have separate fillers, but something weird is going on, and I think my gearchange, which has always been iffy is getting worse. Previously I have put this down to a gearlever/linkage problem, but now I am beginning to wonder.

Its possible, as if memory serves correct, only a gasket seperates the two.
Have you been playing in water lately? If so, water may have entered the transfer case. This will lift the apparent level to overfull. Remember the oil will sit on top of the water.
