heat shield

Help! Help
I had a rather loud rattling coming from under my beloved sporty. A very kind soul helped me find what it is and found it to be the heat shield that had come off my exhaust. I have spoken to a garage briefly about it but have not yet had chance to take it to be put on the ramps. The man in the garage said that on a lot of vehicles the heat sheild does not play that an important part (mondeos etc)so not to be too worried. I admit being a bit of a girl (very little knowledge) and also short on cash at the moment I am a little concerned about this. Can anyone tell me how omportant the heat shield is?

Also last night i took a rather sharp turn at low speed and heard a loud twanging noise from under the vehicle, almost like something at snapped. I cant see anything, anyone got any ideas?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my sporty is very loved and i do tend to panic if anything is wrong

i suspect the exhaust heat sh

i suspect the exhaust heat sheild is there for a reason otherwise it would not be fitted! perhaps without it the carpets above might catch fire! lol!
perhaps not so extreme but its there for a reason!

the noise was probably the thing falling off!
its only four bolts on standoffs! you cant be that much of a girl? and why would you need to get it on a ramp, or is lying on your back under a car a bit much for you lol!

anyone wana ride in my hovercraft!

the noise i heard was a week

the noise i heard was a week after the heat sheild had fallen off. I could get under the car but i probably wouldnt know what i was looking at as i have never had anyone show me what i would be looking for. I may be a girl but please dont try and insult me, if i had heard the noise when the thing fell off then i probably would have put two and two together but they are seperate occurences, i do have a little commom sense, i just wanted a little bit of advice thats all.

i had a nice rattle from my 4

i had a nice rattle from my 4trak.
what it turned ut to be was the bracket from the gearbox to the exhaust. it had broken and was vibrating like crazy.

Heat shield not so important?

Your garage man who says don't worry about heat shield is trying to please you. Car makers are out to save a dollar at every opportunity and if the car has a heat shield then it is important.

A common reason for heat shield is to ensure the fuel pipes and carburetor do not vaporise the petrol prematurely, when long- time stalled at traffic jam, or when the summer temperature is highest.

Under those conditions the radiator fan is cooling the radiator water, but not giving much aid to the petrol system which may be well out of the airflow path.

Cheers......... ALE
