Forum:

Have just bought a Fourtrak last week, know nothing about them apart from how much fun they are, was looking for wheel sizes / fitments and stumbled on here in Google. Seen all sorts of numbers / letters for my model so wanting to find out a bit more about it. It's a '94 model, TDX (I think), with the more modern interior, 2.8 T Diesel, pulls like a train but very, very thirsty on juice (like 25 quid to do 150 miles thirsty...) Wheels need tidying so was looking at getting some nice alloys or pretty steel ones. Any advice on tyres also greatly appreciated...not going to do a lot of off roading, mainly towing light stuff.

Is it an F75 model - if so, what does this mean. Any ideas on why it's so thirsty and anything I need to do / check / change in the way of servicing. It's done 65K, genuine as far as I can tell, one owner from new on log book, obviously a farmer as it stinks of sheep at the minute...

I gather Suzuki vitara wheels fit, will I need spacers if I go up to 16 or 17 inch rims? Or shall I stick with the standard ones and tart them up. What is the standard tyre size - don't get this 3.10 stuff, only know 255 / 75 / 15...etc...sizeing.

Looking forward to may happy motoring miles in it, 50mph never has been so much fun...

Mike

Wheels for Fourtrak

Have a look at Formula4x4, there's a link on the left somewhere, they are very good, do reasonable wheel / tyre packages. I've got 31 x 10.5 x 15s on mine, wrapped round some nice 5 spoke alloys, if you pm me your email address, I'll send you some photos of it. You can get wheels off ebay - there's always some decent stuff on there - that's where I found mine actually.
Good luck, enjoy the fourtrak.

Hi, Thanks for your reply,

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, my e-mail is eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%70%68%79%73%69%6f%40%63%68%69%72%6f%6e%2e%77%61%6e%61%64%6f%6f%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%22%3e%70%68%79%73%69%6f%40%63%68%69%72%6f%6e%2e%77%61%6e%61%64%6f%6f%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')) would love to see what they look like with some decent alloys on. I assume that the tyre size you quote is all in inches? Does that equate to a 265 70 profile?

Any clues on why it's so thirsty....

Mike

Check your air cleaner elemen

Check your air cleaner element. If it is full of crap, then your fuel economy will plummet.
You should get around the 10L/100km, or 28MPG

It's a drinker...

Hi Dave,

Have just recently changed the air filter, have rest of filters (oil and fuel) to do also but it's a question of time at the minute. I put 20 quid in the other day, and it cost me a tenner to do 50 miles (Nuneaton to Derby, so not all town work). Any more ideas? It runs sweet, doesn't miss a beat, doesn't chuck out any smoke (or hardly any), no leaks underneath on drive (with engine both stopped and running), pulls cleanly throughout the rev range, it's a total mystery to me as to why it uses so much fuel. Are there any adjustment on the injection system/carb/whatever or fuel rail anywhere?

Errr, I cant do Pounds to mil

Errr, I cant do Pounds to miles conversion, as I work in Aussie dollars to Km. There is a screw at the back of the fuel pump, with lock nut, and perhaps sealing wire. You can undo the locknut and carefully screw the screw in about 1/8 turn. Tighten locknut. This will affect your idle speed, so this will need adjustment. Do this carefully, as large adjustments can make big changes to economy/idleing. Repeat the process as necessary. Make sure you know where the original position was, so if everything goes pearshaped, you can return it to its original position.

Cheers
