Sportrak rear door

Forum:

Hi all,

The stay at the bottom of my Sportraks rear door/tailgate (the mechanism that stops it swinging shut) has dropped down where it locates on the pin on the door (i.e: it rubs on the bumper when the door is opened/shut). It looks like there is a plastic lining round the pin in the door, which has snapped and dropped down.

Has anyone else had trouble with this, and has anyone got any ideas how to sort it??

Hope all that makes sense... bit hard to describe!!

Cheers,
Nat

Erm...

I am trying to figure out what you mean. Is it the metal thing which clicks when you open the door so far and then clicks as u shut the door at the very bottom?

If it is then I will look at mine to see how its all connected as i think from what you are saying its become disconnected from the door? Then work out how you could bodge it back on a la Blue Peter style.

Yeah, that bit!!

Yeah, thats the part im on about! When u look you'll see where it is held on the door end by a 'pin' in the bottom of the door... the bracket has droped down and off the bottom of the pin (but is still fixed ok onto the bodywork end).

Tried adjusting the little sprung screw on it but it doesnt do much!!

Assuming they are the same as

Assuming they are the same as the Rocky/Fourtrak, the rear door stay mechanism has four parts that attach under your rear door. The pivot body, the plastic sleeve, a washer, and a phillips head screw. Basically, the bit that slides through the door stay, attached inside the door jamb on your body, is identical, except upside down. The body of the stay pivot threads into the bottom of your door. There is a hex head above where the stay attaches. Its about 20 or 22mm if I remember correctly. Take the sliding stay off by removing the phillips head screw, the washer, from under the door, then remove the stay. Tighten the pivot body (these work loose with vibration) Reassemble everything, lubing the pivot and the sliding stay, and put some anti sieze on the thread of the phillips head screw.
Alternatively, you could fit a bonnet lift stay off a later model vehicle, one of the pressurised gas ram ones. Ive often thought of doing this myself.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that, but it doesn

Thanks for that, but it doesnt sound like the fourtrack and sportrak systems are the same. The two pins/pivot points on mine are different - the one it slides through has a 'top' on it to stop the stay coming off, but the fixed point (on the door) hasn't, so the stay has dropped off the bottom! I'll try tightening it tho, as you say.

Thanks a lot,
Nat

On a slightly seperate note

Where in the West Midlands are you based? I remember that I had your address around at 1 point but I no longer do. Cos if you are nearish would be nice to meet a Sporty owner from the same region for a glass of coke or something Smile
