Raising Foutrak torsion bar?

Forum:

Hi,

Is it a difficult job to raise a Fourtraks front end if it has torsion bars rather than springs? I'd like to get rid of that nose down stance and possibly fit bigger tyres.

Any help greatly appreciated.

It is an easy job... There ar

It is an easy job... There are two threaded lengths with nuts on them which allow adjustment of the torsion bars individually.
They are located inline with the front doors on each side underneath the car and they point towards the centre of the car.
Measure the car from ground to wheel arch prior to starting to do this so you can check the height increase.
Undo the first nut and then tighten the second nut and this will raise the car by putting more tension on the torsion bar.
Make sure you measure both sides to lift it equal amounts on each side. Do up the first nut when finish moving the second nut so it cant move anywhere.
About a 40mm lift is the most you can obtain before you have no wheel travel remaining in the down direction. New shocks are also a great improvement when doing this.
This will give you a level stance and allow a bit bigger tyres;)

Jack front wheels clear of

Jack front wheels clear of floor! Otherwise your asking a lot of one nut thred... To keep even lift, count the number of turns, or messure once put back on floor, jack and adjust as neccesary. Mack sure it's on a flat surface when messuring. Also if it's been jacked up, drive back and fourth a few meeters befor mesuring to allor wishbones to come to rest in natural position. If you don't the car will sit unaturally high anyway, as wheels stop suspention comming to full rest. As wheel toches ground the sospention depreses and tries to push wheels outward from car. Tyre wont alow it until car drives forward / backward a little.
When I had done this to mine it took 31/10.50-15's on the standars pepper por / tear drop alloys, with miner adjustment (bending) of the front mud flapes to alow for stearing.
