Fourtrak stereo mounting bracket

Forum:

Hi folks. I'm new here but have been finding a wealth of info on the fourtrak...so thanks already for enlightening me in some problems i've had by reading your old posts.

My fourtrak had been stripped of stereo etc when i got it and have just had a mounting bracket and facia delivered from a supplier. Thing is, i've no idea how the bracket is to be mounted??? it is like a flat strip of metal in almost a horseshoe shape with an oval hole drilled in it.

Can anyone can tell me how this is to be fitted, as i just can't sus it out

'scuse my thickness

The 'horse shoe' goes around

The 'horse shoe' goes around the back of the sterio, with the side with a second bend under the sterio. The sterio should be screwed to the end of the 'horse shoe' clamping the sterio & clamp into place. There is then normally an infil panel that clips over the lot to cover the rest of the hole left by the double din sterio. This has a sorry little shelf thing in it.

Cheers mate. Easier said than done tho. I've go to to try and find a bolt small enough to fit behind the bracket and screw into the back of my head unit with enough thread to pull it tight. With the bracket in place there is only a gap of about 1cm between the bracket and air duct behind it. Whats more, it's a bugger trying to do this when the facia and stereo cage are in place as the head unit needs to go through these to stay put also. I've also found out that the front edges of the bracket should sit on the metal frame behind the facia and if the metal bracket isn't used the the facia will snap into three pieces as the facia and cage are not strong enough to hold the weight of the head unit.

Tricky job for such a simple procedure considering the space available to work around. I now know why there are so many snapped facias around! If anyone knows of an easier way to get around this, please let me know!

It a Pioneer head unit btw.

Cheers

Gillie

I had a Sporti which when I came to change the sterio (a year after bying the car) I found it was held in place by being duct taped to a block of wood, which was standing on the transmition tunnel. The sterio cage was holding the sterio to the faceuer, and the block of wood was taking the weight. Not exactly a delarship modification. But it worked, and I would have never guessed it was bodged if I hadn't tried to change the sterio.

Great idea! Two minutes later and it's sorted. Sometimes i forget about trying to make things easy. Bit of wood wedged between stereo and floor. Nice and tight - lovely! Cheers Nev

Stereo mounting bracket

Hi Gillie
not so sure how to fit the flat strip , But make sure you find out , because the stereo in my fourtrack ,although not very heavy, snapped the stereo surround into three pieces, and as yet i have yet to find a scrapper with one in tact !
