How big should it be???

Forum:

I am looking at buying a winch for my Sportrak and dont know a great deal about them. Can anyone tell me how big a winch I need to look at, given a limited budget, I dont tend to get stuck in deep mud but occasionaly I cant quite get myself out and need to jack myself out and put bricks under wheels which is becoming a pain not to mention embarassing. I have looked on ebay and seen some small 2000lb/6000lb winches which fasten to a tow ball / tow eye (for about £60) but I dont know whether they are powerful enough and dont want to waste my money if they arent any good. Chassis mounted ones are nice but expensive and may be a bit overkill so somebody please help.
Many Many thanks for any help you can give.

those little winches are poo!

get yourself a small tirfor (hand puller) much more power and much less cost! slower recovery but its horses for courses in recovery!

How big though

How strong would I need and what sort of price are they likely to cost?

Keep the sunny side up and the muddy side down!!!

For the Sportrak, look at a T

For the Sportrak, look at a T508 Tirfor. Smaller than the T516, half the capacity, but get a snatch block as well to make up for it. Overall, the weight would be reduced. This, as well as a factory PTO winch, is what I have for my Rocky/Fourtrak.
