one of many things

Forum:

if anyone can help with this particular one.. i have oil leaking from front axle where it joins the n/s wheel hub on my newly aquired and much loved 1986 2.8t fourtrac any suggestions or advice gratfully received

Sounds like the type T oil se

Sounds like the type T oil seal may have gone m8..this is located on the half shaft..replacement means stripping down to the steering knuckle which has also to be removed to get to the shaft..you would then need to pull the shaft out to get to the seal...there is also a much larger Type M oil seal which sits behind the knuckle..this may be the culprit...whichever one it is will require strip down and inspection.

The larger type M oil seal is situated at the back of the steering knukle and has two inspection plates covering it..you can remove these to inspect the seal.
It may also be the inner oil seal of the hub..which is not such a big job..but still requires stip down of hub.

Do you have a manual Unknw
If not I can let you have the exploded diagram of the axle and steering knuckle assembly...it clearly shows the positions of the oil seals.

Id agree, sounds like diff oi

Id agree, sounds like diff oil getting into the swivel housing grease, contaminating it, then getting past the swivel housing seal. It may look big, but take it one step at a time, and it is reasonably easy to fix.
You said "one of many", you have other problems? If so, there is a wealth of knowledge between people on here and other Daihatsu forums. Post them, Im sure you will get answers.

the seal

yep,

definalty sound like the seal, I has the same problem (look under Fourtrak (91 H) Front Axle Leak, posted 27/5/03.

I followed Mr Bundyrumandcokes suggestions and the job was easy. I have also obtained a CD service manual if you are still looking.
