F50 PROBLEM

Forum:

Hi am hoping someone can help me with a problem on my F50,its a 1982 2.5 diesel model. The problem is on start up on the dash the CHG and the F-DRAIN red lights stay on,does anybody know what these are and what the problem could be.Any help would be great.

Cheers all
Nigel

Hi Nigel

The CHG lite is batt charge, check alternator belt aint too slack and no loose alternator wires. The F-DRAIN is fuel drain, not too sure but diesel pump may need priming.

The fuel drain point is under

The fuel drain point is under the drivers seat box, next to the chassis under the batery box. But be warned, these dash lights are well known for lieing. I have had 3 seperat F20/50's myself and know of several others with these lights that refuse to go out, with nothing wronge and no longe term ill effects. Basicly cheack the offending articals (altinatour/regulatour and fuel drain, for water). If everything is OK, put black tape over the warning light like many other F50/20's.
By the way to cheak if the regulaiter is bust you will need a multi meter to cheack the battery when she's running. At any rev.s the Volts should be between 12.5 & 14. If she is spiking to 14.5+ Volts, especially if the voltage goes up and down with the rev.s you need a new regulaitour.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

F50

Hi cheers for that, thought it might be the lights playing up as the wiring is not the best, will check voltage at battery to be sure.
Once again thanks for the help

F50 problems

Seem to remember having this problem (or something similar) with mine a while ago, remember having to change a blown inline fuse which is located in the wiring loom on top of one of the front inner wings, can't remember which side though.
