I'm buying am 87 2.0 petrol fourtrack for £100 so I can take it on the plymouth - dakar charity challenge drive to Timbuctu. http://www.plymouth-dakar.co.uk/
I'm not a novice to this sort of thing but would welcome what key areas to look for weaknesses. Obviously it's only £100 so if it drives I'll be lucky!!! It's MOT'd and Taxed for 3 months and I'm told it runs fine.
I assume main areas to check are general state of engine, gearbox, clutch, chassic rot. Also making sure can change from 2WD to 4WD will be essential and I believe there's also high and low range gear boxes??
Most other stuff can be deal with as and when and shouldn't cost the earth. I assuemt eh bearings go a fair bit as do UJs. Anything else or any tips for how to check if it's knackered or not?
Also - any idea what sort of top speed and max cruising speed i can expect and what MPG is roughly? 25MPG+?
Cheers in advance - sure I'll be supping your advice a fair bit over the next few months.
