Hi All, i just bought a fourtrak with a noisy diff (supposed to be) but i'm thinking more like gearbox!?
it does make a loud whine when going 50-60mph but seems to come from the front centre area not the rear! and if you put the clutch in or coast then it stops! i thought if diff/axle then it would be still making a noise
if the gearbox how do i check the oil on these? is there a seperate dip stick? or just a plug in the side you fill to this level or is it through the gearstick??
does the tranfer box (if it has one) have a seperate oil tank or does it share the gearbox's oil? if seperate how do you check this level?
i dont think anything wrong with clutch or thrust bearing as no noise stationery with clutch engaged or out!
sorry for all questions just bought tonight and hoping to have a better look at it tomorrow.
