Forum:
I have a daihatsu hi-jet mpv 1.3efi T reg, and it keeps cutting out on me when driving at constant speeds. It doesnt happen when driving on A roads only on dual carridge ways / motorways. Anything over 60mph and the engine just dies, no warning lights, no power, nothing. To 'fix' this I have to turn the ignition key to off then back on again. The Van runs just like normal again. For a while. Other points that may help diagnos the fault: the temp guage at 50 mph stays in the middle (van doesnt cut out) anything over that, the temp guage raises to around the 3/4 position and the van starts cuting out. This is the position that the cooling fan normally kicks in when idling. I know the cooling fans draw alot of current but could it be this that is causing the problem. I have checked the fuel tank and replaced the filtre but this has'nt solved the problem yet. Has anyone else had this kind of problem, can some one please help. Any input greatly recieved.

Sounds like a problem with the fuel injection system to me.
Not familiar with your particular vehicle but it could be a dodgy sensor.
I am sure that you can attach a fault finder to your engine which would throw up fault codes.
Lots of EFI engines have a throttle sensor which increases or decreases fuel flow to the engine...
I would get the fuel system checked out if I were you

hi everyone, has anybody got or had the same problem as i have?I own a 998 cc hijet, whilst driving the thing starts to stutter (like running out of petrol) put the thing out of gear and cruise abit then jump it back to life, goes for a while then the same problem, have changed the fuel fillter, and just to be on the safe size placed another (plastic type) up by the carb, none of which seem to be full of sh*t after a run, is there a fillter in the tank of so sort that could be getting blocked?, or could it be something else? that I,ve over looked ,the van drives like a dream sometimes, this tends to happen on motorways at around 60mph or more, any sugestions?
thanks, and mine is a carb 998cc engin, so injectors can be ruled out, pass on any relpys to me cos sure sounds like the same problem to mehave just been reading the fourum replys on other related probs, there is one which sugests you could try removing the fuel cap and let some air in then see if it starts, (which is what I,m gonna do) if it starts up right away that could be the problem not enough air getting in the tank, so gonna check the breather pipesfor the tank, will keep you posted
