DL 50 Engine Information

Forum:

Hi

Was wondering if anyone can help? Help
I have just bought an old land rover that has been converted with Daihatsu DL 50 turbo diesel engine. Having trouble finding info or a manual for this engine!! Any information on this unit would be appreciated. A friend has told me it has a timing chain rather than a belt? is this correct? Where on the unit is the engine serial number?
Apologies if these questions are obvious to the mechanical of you all, i'm new to all this and a bit stuck

Thanks for any info or help

Jez

I've got a E reg Fourtrak wit

I've got a E reg Fourtrak with this engine.
It's not got a cam belt - which I reckon is a bonus.
From what I can gather is if the timing cover is plastic then if belt but if alloy then chain.
I've downloaded free manuals from -
http://www.bmhor.org/fourtrak/manual.htm
They are for the later cam belt type but otherwise it's basically the same engine.

Look on the side of the block

Look on the side of the block, at the front, under cylinder no 1 exhaust port. The engine number should be there.
