Fitting new steering wheel for Sportrak

Forum:

HI there,

I have just bought a MOMO steering real for my sportrak as the old one is very tatty.

Would be very grateful if somebody could send me or post back some simple instructions for removal of the old one.

Many thanks,

Dobbin

Right this is for non airbag

Right this is for non airbag (never heared of an airbag but just incase.
Flat edged screw driver goes in between horn, and steering wheel. This should alow you to pop horn cover off. Work gradually around and itll come off.
Engage steering lock, and take igntion key out.
Should be able to undo bolt that goes onto steering rack, this holds wheel on.
Firmly tap underneath steering wheel, taking care not to hit it off into your face.
Then you should be able to fit the wheel or not (depending on spline size).
Fitting reverse of above.

Only forseeable problem would be the horn wiring.
Hope this helps.

maniac_jay quite rightly warns to take care not to hit it off into your face. One tip to stop this happening is to loosen the nut but leave it on a few threads until the wheel is free, then remove the nut and wheel.

Hi just a question. My Sporty which i have been rebuilding has passed its MOT.
BUT.
The steering wheel foam has come away from the metal ring inside, so can be twisted like a bike throttle. What id like to know is what boss did you use?? And what wheel did you go for?? Any pics??
