Forum:
Hi.
I'm new to this forum having previously owned a series III land rover which broke then rotted! I recently bought a 1989 F75. I have just put some big MT tyres on (265/70r15)and taken it out for some off road fun, only to leave most of my freshly applied waxoyl on the crest of a hill!
As the suspension has now done 140000 miles and i would like some more ground clearance, i am wanting a lift kit. On browsing the forums however, it seems they are rare, and those people who have found them, dont mention where they got them from.
I dont fancy paying £800 for a LA supertrucks kit, and i dont have the tools or knowhow or bravery for a spring over axle or other such homemade solutions. Can anyone help?
Failing that, where is the best place to get new springs and procomp shocks, as i may enlist a local engineering firm to fabricate me some new shackle plates if all else fails!
Thanks
Aaran
lift
I got a unexpected lift of 3 inches just for replacing standard shocks and springs, buy the lot from Milners, I bought the lot, shocks, springs, shackles, bolts, bushs,u bolts,as a kit, and cut the whole of the old kit off, no messing with rusted bolts and seized bushes and replaced with new. Wonderful tools the gas axe and grinder. Try Milners, top of the page under parts dealers, they are very helpful.

lift
Nearly forgot. Add to previous post , fit bigger tyres, I have replaced the standard tyres with 31x10.50 R15, these fill the arches nicely, and just manage to clear the chassis, for the MOT, though axle movement will cause them to rub offroad, on full lock.

Lift kit / suspension lift
Bronco4x4 advertise a +2" lift kit (based on new springs and shocks) for £565, it's a bit better than the la supertrucks £800 price tag.
Based on Milners currently listed prices for spring kits and shocks your looking at £315 with standard springs.
I'd be interested to hear which way you go, I may be facing the same decision soon.

lift kit
did no one read my post because i got a lift kit coming from pro comp for 480 inc vat. That is for new shocks and springs which is a min lift of 2.5". I have also ordered a steering damperner for when i put on my big tyres
Lift Kit from Procomp
Sorry colin, what with all the postings going into different places, i didn't see yours untill recently. I've phoned procomp and their kit looks like the one i'll probably go for. Did you get the steering dampner from procomp as well?
ProComp price
Sorry Colin; I stand corrected, but would point out I posted the response before your comment, and the LA-Supertrux web site price I found was in line with what Aaran posted, ie in the order of £800.
I currently have dissimilar rear leaves (one having been replaced by the previous owner), sagging front leaves and a limited budget, so if the price is actually £480 for the ProComp leaf and shock kit, I'm certainly interested. Can you let me know how you get on with it, what the kit consists of, any issues with the pan-hard rod at the front, etc. and if you go bigger tyres, what size you manage to squeeze in there with the 2.5" lift.
Thank you kindly
Duncan

Thanks for the advice guys. There is a guy on ebay selling extended shackle plates, and in combination with the gear from Milners it will work out cheaper than the Bronco 4x4 kit. However, the shackle plates are advertised as 'suitable for any leaf sprung vehicle' which seems a very bold claim! A little more investigation is in order, but at the moment the Bronco kit looks the best bet. Either way, it will be two months to save up the money, so i will let you know then.
As regards the tyre situation, i was actually going to get a set of 31/10.50 greenway machos for a very decent price from Geared to go 4x4, but he was out of stock. However, he offered me a set of better quality 265/70-R15 Recip tyres for same price, saving me over £60. They stand over 30" tall and have already rubbed my mud guards off and put a shiny spot on my chassis, so i'm happy enough with them at the mo!
Thanks again

Extended shackles
Hello
You mentioned a guy on ebay selling the shackles.....do you still have the link to them as I cant find them. Or did you find another supplier
and how much was it..
What was the final outcome of your lift project
Cheers
Link
Hi Skyeten
Here is the link for the shackles in question

Like i said, its a bit of a bold claim to say it fits any leaf sprung truck, but it would be nice if true.
As regards the lift project, i'm in the process of saving the money for it at the moment. Though the plans may have to be speeded up as i quite ebarassingly got stuck on the crest of dirt mound a few metres from the road because i ran out of ground clearance. Took 2 hours to dig myself out! Some cock in a range rover pulled up, looked at me for 5 mins and then drove off again. Thanks mate!
I will let you know what happens with the lift kit. Alternatively, if you beat me to it, let me know how you got on.

Aaran
