Sportrak SATNAV installation

Forum:

Hi,

I would like to install a Blaunpunkt Travelpilot E1 SAT Nav into a 1997 Sportrak, but the SaTNav needs a 'speedpulse signal' to be able to compute position.

Q: Anyone know if the Sportrak has a speedpulse signal somewhere in the loom?

Thanks.

Not possible mate as far as

Not possible mate as far as i know. As the speedo is cable driven, if yours has ABS then you might be able to then but only MIGHT.
Best contact your local stealers, to see what they say.

Thanks - next question:

Thanks Jay, I thought this might be the case. I'll have to generate a speedpulse from the propshaft.

Next question: my sporty has a big double-DIN hole where the radio should be. Can someone tell me what should be in this position? In other words:

1/ did the previous owner hack out a double DIN hole?

2/ Is there some plasticky thing missing the fills in one of the DIN slots, leaving a single DIN for the Radio?

Actually, if someone could post a piccy of the sportrak radio console, that would probably answer my questions.

Thanks, Peter Moreton

There should be a little

There should be a little cubby hole, underneath the radio slot.
Not sure if you can generate a speedpulse from the propshaft, youd have to graft some sort of kit onto it. And i know that the propshaft moves around so dunno if it would work. Normally they use the rear axle, and im not sure that would be possible on a sporty.
Shouldnt your Satnav be capable of working it out using its GPS signal!!

Aha!, looks like my radio

Aha!, looks like my radio cubby hole is missing then. Guess I'll have to get one from a breakers. (Anyone got one going spare?)

Thanks.

PS: The Satnav uses the speedpulse and an inertial sensor to provide navigation in cities when the satellites go out of view.

I remember an old aunt once had a cruise control installed on a Metro which worked on a ring of magnets around one of the driveshafts.
