g102 tachometer replacement/repair?

Forum:

Hi there.

Has anybody succeeded in replacing the tachometer in a charade g102?

or repairing the original one?

as fair as i know we are talking a 12pins silicon chip that overheats due to a large resistor that heats the chip up.

anybody got any good ideas?

i was thinking of finding a dashboard from another car, with same scale and size and perhaps fit it in somehow?

How about buying one of those universal tachometer kits and replacing everything? ( i guess it will be placed around the camshaft?

Hi,
are you UK based?
What size engine is your G102??
I bought a complete speedo head for my G100 GTti ages ago but it turned out to be off a 4 cylinder.
I never saw the car it was off but assume it was a 1.3 ltr.
Some can be fixed by re-newing the solder joints.
Can you post any pics or serial numbers?
Regards,
Dave.

Hi there.

Its a 4-cylinded 1.3 HC engine.

Solderings looks perfect om the back of the print.

I can take some pictures if needed tomorrow or some other day.

The weird thing is, that it isnt completely dead.

Lets say i floor it in a gear and pulls the rpm out to 6-7k. The tach shows 11k rpm ( the arrow gets all the way behind the scale ).

When i hit around 4-4.5k rpm, the tach starts moving backwards slowly up to 8.5-9k rpm ( while my engine hits 6.5k rpm.. i guess.. just around there ).

So, something is going on...

there's an adjustable thing at the print. Looks like a variable resistor. I havent tried adjusting it, but im soon going to.

Greets.
