Forum:
Hi all.
Has any one fitted a stainless steel exhaust to a Fourtrak. I am considering having one made and fitted, company offers many options, bore size, type of expansion box, ect. Claim you could even get more power !!!. Comments any one ?????
Also, is it possible to increase the power by altering the standard air cleaner/intake. Air filter changed regulary,so no problems with breathing.

I had one done for my Sportrak (Feroza), and it did make a nice difference.
Just make sure they keep the curve of the tubing over the rea axle, as it does stop flow of water up the pipe. If you go offroading that is!!
As for the intake you could try a cone filter.
Mud makes excellent Toothpaste.
Air filter & stainless steel exhaust
Thanks for your comments
I believe K&N do a replacement canister filter for the F75 2.8TDX,not mentioned on the web site (old new stock says my local parts man), this is what I had in mind initially, thanks for the sugestion of using a 'dry' cone filter. I understand what has been said about oiled filters, but I assume this refers to when you have cleaned them and re-oiled them. I have had a bad experience with a oilbath filter on a diesel, with a runaway engine.
Fitting a cone filter directly to the turbo housing would cause it to use use hot air from the engine bay, as it would be mounted above the manifold and near the turbo, so I assume I would have to fit a pipe to feed cold air from the grill area,to give a ram air feed to it, or mount the filter on a extended pipe near the grill, so that the inter cooler would be effective. Comments please on this.
The quote I have been given (1st) for a stainless steel exhaust, not including manifold, that is cutting the down pipe, joining the new pipe work, fabricating larger bore pipe work ,expansion box ,fitting, is £500 , not cost effective. Comments any one !!!!! Time quoted for the job was 4hours

EXHAUST
ANY IMPROVEMENT TO GET AIR IN AND EXHAUST OUT FASTER WILL IMPROVE PERFOMANCE. AS FOR INTAKE **K&N INSTEAD OF THE IRONMONGERY ON THE DAIHATSU AND A LARGER BORE EXHAUST WILL ALLOW GASSESTO GET OUT QUICKER. a STEEL TUBED MANIFOLD WILL ALSO SMOOTH THE FLOW OUT. iT'S LIKE A STAGE ONE ON AN ORIGINAL MINI WHERE THE SAME MODIFICATION IS SAID TO PROVIDE 20% IMPROVED BHP. WETHER THE SAME WILL APPLY TO A FOURTRACK DIESEL IS POSSIBLE. KEEP THE SHAPE AS SUGGESTED OF THE TUBING OVER THE REAR AXLE
** Sorry forgot you had turbo so ignore this part as oil is not recomended however minute.

Don't put a K&N on a trubo
I don't know about the exhaust on a fourtrak, but I do know that you absolutely do not want to put a K&N or other type of oiled filter on a turbo. The oil can get sucked up into the turbo and destroy it. Trust me, I've seen it happen. AEM makes awesome reusable aftermarket filters that you just clean but don't oil. Perfect for turbos. You buy them in standard sizes, only they get better airflow than K&N, which means more power, and you don't have to add any oil to them. AEM filters also filter better, which makes them hands down the best aftermarket filter available.
