FUEL CAP

Forum:

Seems a tiny problem but I stupidly left my Fuel Cap at a Fuel Station or on the back bumper and lost it. I have since ordered two new locking replacemets from the UK via ebay and both have arrived as screw type and don't fit. Both my Sportraks have small 1/4turn type caps, or should I say HAD.

Can any one let me know of a supplier of the correct cap who would be prepared to send it to me here in France. It seems daft but I am certain that all Sportraks had the same 1/4 turn type cap and never came with a screw type cap, locking or not. ebay breakers are either not replying or quoting silly prices for 2nd hand non locking caps.

Thanks for all your replies. I went back to the Fuel Station and serched through a box but without luck.

I have taken the advice from PAULDOUBLEYOU and contacted the chap on ebay who has supplied a replacement plus lots of other parts. He is very reasonable indeed and really helpfull. So like Paul I recommend any one wanting bits to contact him at the link in Pauls reply to me!!!!!!!!

My query is, is it actually

My query is, is it actually possible to buy a locking type cap?

my 1993 Fourtrak 2.8TDX has a locking flap then a 1/4 turn fuel cap. However the lock on the flap has long since seized and was obviously prized open once before, and the lock bent back, so there's really no lock on my fuel cap at all, meaning my diesel's free to anyone who is brazen enough to want to steal it!

Failing that, I'll rig up a locking device for the fuel flap, even if it is a basic padlock system Smile

Try this ....

I recently forgot to refit my discovery's fuel cap which is probably still sitting on a lonely petrol pump in rural France. On return to UK rather than buy a replacement, I stopped at a couple of garages and asked to search their box of 'lost' fuel caps - 'I think I drove away without it last week etc'. Soon found a replacement!
