can anyone please tell me how how it is to repair a leaking balljoint and if i need any specalist tools

Do you mean a track rod end

Do you mean a track rod end (stearing linkage) or the housing around the half shaft CV's? As I've heard both be refured to by that name. If the later, where is it leaking from?

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Sounds like the rubber seal

Sounds like the rubber seal arount the back of the swivel housing had rotted. This is very easy to replace. It is held in place by two cemi-circula peices of metal. They are each held in place by 4 8mm bolts. The bolt heads are probably hiden under a nice mix of oil and dirt. With the wheel off they are dead easy to get at. The heads face toward the centre of the axle. If The swivel housing barings have grease nipples, pump some greas into the housing after putting everything back together. If there are no nipples, get some grease in through the gap at the back of the housing befor you bolt up the new seal. These housings should be filled with grease (though not packed solid).
