rocky tdx. 4 wheel drive problem.

Can anyone help. does this sound familiar?. when i change my rocky from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive, while driving, the green light on the dash stays on, after a short time there is noisy thud and the light goes out. this thudding sound is definately mechanical. the vehicle is frequently used in 4 wheel drive .can anyone shed light on this,so i dont damage it any further. as you can tell i know very little about mechanics. many thanks rik.

You just need to 'un-wind'

You just need to 'un-wind' the transmition. Backing up a few feet (until the 4x4 light goes out) should sort it.
