Hello,i wonder if anyone out there can help?I have a 1983 range rover fitted with a daihatsu DL50 turbo diesel.I'm having trouble with the charging system.Its fitted with the Daihatsu alternator but the wrong regulator.I've bought the correct reg. but need a wiring diagram for the charging circuit to fit it into the range rover wiring.The 3 wires off the alt. are black green blue.The 6 wires on the reg. are yellow/white. white. white/black. white/green. white/blue. white/red.Also could anyone tell me what year this engine was last fitted to a fourtrack to give me some idea of what year it might be.Thanks.From Pope

I can let you have the wiring diagram u need but I would need your email address to send it to as an attachment. I think (but dont quote me) that the DL50 was fitted to 4traks untill 1989-90..Daihatsu then upgraded the engine and called it the DL51 ..I have an 88 track which has the DL50 engine fitted.The DL51 is essentialy the same engine but with an intercooler fitted. In fact all engines fitted to all models of 4track are essentially the same..just a tweak here and a tweak there. Someone will correct me if I am wrong about this ...but I am pretty certain that the lump has not changed much since its inception.

Spot on dude.
The only really 'mager' change (and that's talking relitivly), was when the 2.5 diesel was replaced by the 2.8. Take one 2.5, strech the bores/strock to squeeze another 300cc's out of it, and repace the in line pump with a rotery one. Hmm, that's a bit wimmpy, the longer strock seems to have killed the low end torque. Ah well a terbo will sort that one out. The turbo has sorted the power problem out, now what. Oh lets just stick an intercooler on it to just make it out exelerate an XR3i. Spose we ourt to stick a cam belt on it, instead of those gear things while we're here.
