latest from C&E ref SVO/WVO and the bio stuff

Hi

Well I've read it through twice and it sounds like a load of BULLSHITE to me produced by some Civil Servant with verbal trots. I pity, as always, the poor producers who have to understand it and keep the correct side of whatever the limit is.

I suppose I ought to ask where these bio fuels are and who is using them but in reality the production figures are so low in comparison to fossil fuel users to be almost irrelevant.

bio stuff

hi

there are about 130 seperate biofuel stations around the uk at the moment and bp (or one of the others cant remember) are meant to be trialing it somewhere but this will grow. also there are numerous outlets where you can buy the stuff by the barrel www.biomotors.co.uk etc and pay the tax there

i was thinking that it was aimed at the single user that uses SVO / WVO and those who use asda or tescos best or old chipshop oil and have registered with customs EX103

it certainly make more sense then filling out the the HO930 form every month when they pay the tax/vat on it

i havent heard of many people on this site using it but there are plenty of derv uses out there who are doing so and like autogas you cant get in everywhere but it retails i am told at 85.9 ppl at the pump tax paid bout 10ppl cheaper than derv and zero emissions for the mot test

and i know that customs were dipping for it in rotherham the other week and that our wonderful government put the tax on it up in the budget so much for being "green" i believe that it is zero rated for vat and fuel tax in some parts of europe gotta love that

anyway i was just after some thoughts on the matter

veg oil mix

Hi All.

It seems this bulletin from C+E, is aimed at the home brewer/mixer. It will save a lot of paper work for C+E and make life simpler for the individual. (No need to register or pay excise duty if under 2500 Lts,but ??????? keep a record of the fuel additive/extender in case you exceed this limit)????!!!!!!. The price of veg oil is increasing steadily, the price of Tesco's best is now 65p/Ltr,up from 45/Ltr 2months ago,are forces at work here to bring veg oil into the same price band as derv.

Here is the reply to some comments I made to C+E,via the previously posted link

Dear Mr Salsbury

I am sorry if the previous wording was not clear enough. We will shortly
be putting out a Revenue & Customs Brief on our website to publicise the
outcome. However, I can confirm that the 2,500 litre limit will apply to
all biofuels and other fuel substitutes and additives. This should take
effect this summer. We will advise of the date on our website at
www.hmrc.gov.uk closer to the time.

If any producer (or group of producers sharing equipment) stays below
this level, which should be retrospectively calculated on a rolling 12
month basis, then from that date they will no longer have to register or
pay excise duty. You will therefore need to monitor the litreage of your
vegetable oil component of the mix on an ongoing basis, and register
with us if it reaches, or if you expect it to reach, over 2,500 litres
in a year. See paragraphs 2.5 and 5.3 of the current version of Notice
179E - Biofuels and other fuel substitutes - also on our website, for
advice on how to register, or 'make entry of premises' as it is
offically called.

This notice will be updated soon, as the address to which return forms
must be sent has changed from Southend to Birmingham, and also the
forthcoming changes we have been discussing need to be included in it.

I hope this has been useful.

Regards

BIO FUELS

I am sorry if I appeared flippant in my earlier reply but being ex governement employed, I do wish the British would write briefly about items in simple language rather than hiding truth behind words.

I live in France and have seen no evidence of this alternative Bio fuel. Deisel (GASOIL) is the cheaper of all fuels here and used by most.

I'm afraid the Chancellor may preach Green but still expects his cut in Duty and like LPG he will eventually price all the alternative fuels the same.

I am not a great believer in the Green house theory remaining convinced that what I was taught in the 50's remains the case. Greenhouse effect and global warming is a method used by Governments and very successfully by that in Britain to dip deeper into every working persons pocket and the driver is easy target.

That is an argument for another time and place. I shall continue to use my Sportraks and unleaded as I am sure if I pay for LPG or Biofuel conversion sooner or later Mr Chancellor will get more out of my pocket than it is worth me spending to convert. The switch to Deisel in the UK is a fine example as was the pocket picking change from £SD to decimal.
