hi everybody
i have a problem, my sportrack idles erratically, going form 850 rpm to 200rpm then to 1000rpm. i have replaced high tension leads, plugs are all cleaned etc could it be the rotor button on the distributor? if you have any more ideas please help!!! it would be very appreciated.

Ideas - starved of air or fuel.
Unlikely to be the rotor arm. Have you replaced the air filter - they get clogged but remain looking reasonably clean. Try the car without the air filter and see it the problem remains.
Next .... suspect a fuel supply problem. Clean the fuel filter and check for kinked pipes.
Tip ... with air fiter removed and a clean lint free cloth in your hand, rev the engine and firmly block the air intake. The suction will frequently unblock any jets. Be certain to use a lint free cotton cloth and don't let it be sucked into the inlet!

I had this problem on my Sporty, turns out it was due to very low water (cracked radiator) and / or very low oil (neglegence).
Used some radweld, topped up both oil and water, runs a dream now
