I have a fourtrak TD 1988 F70. And have just got hold of a gearbox that has 4L,4H and 2H. My box is only 4L and 2H. Do you know if it will fit my fourtrak please.

Yes, it will bolt straight
Yes, it will bolt straight in. You can then remove those troublesome solenoids.

Gearbox swap
Thank you for replying. There are 3 electric connections on the box I want to fit could you please tell me do I use them or lose them. Thanks again.

One on the gearbox is the reverse light, one on the transfer case is 4x4 indicator on the dashboard, cant remember off hand what the other one is.

Gear box switches
The third one is a 4th/5th gear switch which either opens or closes (I can't remember which) when 4th or 5th is selected. The wiring connects to a little valve in some of the vacuum tubing going to the carb (if a petrol engine) and controls the EGR which is the exhaust gas recirculator. There was absolutely no difference to mine whether it was connected or not so I got rid of the whole lot to simplify things. I just left the switch in place.
