Lubrication of replacment manual hubs (AVM)

Forum:

Hi All.

Having recently replaced my Auto Hubs with AVM manuals from 'Milners' and reading lots of posts regarding front wheel hubs and their problems.

My question is lubrication, the hubs have sealed bearings,(how long do they last ??, how long is a piece of string)and the fitting instructions ,state lightly oil the components prior to fitting but has no long term lubrication guide.

I have come across posts that say that they should be greased, but not to heavily or the assembly will not engage, could I have some suggestions as to what other users have done to keep the hub assembly's free and working.

If greasing is best, what sort, I have spray on synthetic grease, spray on nonfling chain grease, copper lube, every day HT grease out of the gun, or should I just dismantle them occasionally (once a year) clean and oil the components.

Many Thanks

I'd say just the bog

I'd say just the bog standard 'greese gun' stuff will do quite nicely. A good coating of everything. Don't pack it. As you say the parts wont be able to move. On.ce done it should be fine left alone. Just make sure you lock them once a month or so. You should drive round with them locked once a month or so anyway, to get the lub moving in the front diff and swivel housings / c.v.'s.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
