Hi have just bough a fourtrak which has done 92k mile. Service book shows belt change at 65000 miles in Feb 02 should I be getting it changed yet as somewhere I read that time of service is also a factor

Workshop manual doesn't say anything.
The only thing in there is the requirement to change the belt every 60000 miles.
Yes, a very old belt could become perished, but I haven't seen it happen on old timing belts even from the '80s which I should have thrown out but haven't.
I would suggest changing the belt on the dot of 120000 miles, but not worrying about it till then. If you are only doing say 1000 miles a year in the vehicle, them maybe you and I need to think again, though.

Yes get it changed as the cost of a replacement engine is huge.
A belt should be changed every 60,000 miles or 6 years whichever the sooner. If it goes then so does the engine in most cases and at the very least will need a rebuild up top.

TIMING BELT.
I WOULD STICK TO THE 60,000 OR SIX YEARS MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED PERIOD. I HAVE CHANGED A NUMBER AND THEY STILL LOOK PERFECT AFTER THIS PERIOD BUT COULD GO AT ANY TIME.
Regardless of how fewer miles you do, if you exceed the recommendations then you risk the thing breaking. I have just paid 800€ for one to be done on my Audi A6 because the alternative is unthikable. I wouldn't risk it but I certainly would go, on reflection, to the six years which will be 2008.
