Hello, newbie here, new to the site and new to Diahatsu's (and 4x4's in general)
Just got a 1995 Sportrak ELXI (Midnight edition?), and I absolutely love it.
Her name is Abby, btw.
I'm in Norfolk, so not too many big hills, but could be some opportunities for off roading.
Having said that, though, I think the previous owner never washed her once, so I just spent all last Saturday cleaning and polishing her up, so I don't want it to get too dirty too fast, lol.
Again, new to the whole scene, so can anyone tell me the significance for the "Midnight" graphics?
Is it a special edition? Is it rare?
The previous owner couldn't tell me a lot about it.
Many thanks in advance!

MIDNIGHT
Hi
Done a good job of getting that one clean. AUTOGLYM?
The blue ones do have a deep shine and my old 1`991 blue/silver looks like yours when polished.
Dahatsu made a number of special editions and the MIDNIGHT is one of the better ones and often referred to as the most wanted. I have an ANJOU which again was only made for a limited run and are now quite rare. They are in a Metallic Rose. The nice part of the Midnight is the single colour roof as most have a variation of silver.
The only downside I have found to the later models is the build and finish quality compared to my other Sporty which is J reg. The later ones rust beneath those wheel arch extensions because Daihatsu use steel screw type bolts instead of stainless bolts. The rust is invisible untill it creaps beyond the srches. It is worth removing them and trating any found while it can be hidden behind the arch. Waxoyl the area beneath the extension and remove those steel clips that cause the problem. Replace the arches using Stainless bolts with stainless washers and nuts.
Interior finish likewise is a bit cheaper and less robust that the J reg plus mine leaks so watch the rear foot well carpets.
Other than that the car looks great and I'm sure once off road will be great. A quick pressure wash off will soon restore that shine
Good luck

Many thanks for your reply.
Many thanks for your reply. I know about the finish quality, the section right below the grill and headlights is about 50/50 rust. It seems like it's the only visible bit like that, but I was wondering about the rest. I'll take a look, thanks for the tip!
And, no, wasn't Autoglym, just some polish/scratch remover I got from Halfords and a LOT of elbow grease.
I know it's socially acceptable to have a layer of dirt on it, but I'll never let it get back to the state it was, lol
