Suspension or Body lift

Forum:

Anyone know the best/easiest way to lift a F75 C'reg 2.8TD Fourtrak, we went on a off orad today and the we so badly needed a couple of more inches of clearance, got stuck as the axles were trying there best to plough, but not succeeding.

Any tips, advice, pictures would be most appreciated....

Cheers,

Shaun

all i have on mine is iron

all i have on mine is iron man springs & shocks with 31x10.0x15 tyres, this is about 2" higher that my fathers standard fourtrak.

Well, no amount of body or

Well, no amount of body or suspension lift is going to stop your axles hanging up. The only solution for this problem is either, larger diameter tyres, or portals.

Suspension lifts will increase your uptravel on your suspension.
A body lift will give you more clearance between body and tyres, or the ground.

Wheel sizes

What you siad makes perfect sense I never really looked at it that way.

So really more ground clearance can only be achieved via bigger diameter wheels.

Problem I've got with that is we've already got 30 X 9.5 R15's on it and the fronts rub on the chassis when on full lock, which I know doesnt damage the truck, but sounds very bad and reduces the turning circle even more, I've got some 31's coming from a friend, but are reluctant to fit them as these will rub anymore, is there any spacers, or mods I can do to remove this chassis and wheel contact?

Cheers,

Shaun

Hi.

Hi.
31x10.50's are I think the largest you can fit to standard rims, and they do rub a bit, but you would be only on full lock at low speed, I run these in a A/T type as a every day use tyre, if you can get in touch with a agricultural tyre/wheel specialist, They can cut out the wheel center on a lathe and weld in what ever size rim / offset, you require, but at the end of the day you will have reduced turning lock unless you fit wheel spacers, and modify the wheel arches. (These mods may not be road legal !!!!!!!.)Plus all this will put undue stress's on the hubs and bearings, possibly leading to more expense and problems.

Learn to drive/cope with what you have, your skills will increase, and have faith in your truck and your self.

Off road

Hi all,

Thanks for the reply's and the info, we only use the truck off road, its not road legal, as it has no MOT or Tax, so that side of things is nothing to worry about.

Its just that when getting down and dirty in her, we do get into some tight spaces which we need maximum manoeuverability, so reducing the turning circle each time only makes our off road fun more difficult, but I suppose this is something we will have to live with.

We will try out the 31's and see how we go with them.

Cheers,

Shaun

off road

I think the trouble might be we run on 15 inch wheels.
i have plenty of spring lift and wheel spacers .but i dout my non turbo engine can pull 31x10.5 tyers i have the right lower geared gearbox and a turbo engine engine will pull these tyers with this low geared box. but the engine is a dozey a old frend through thick and thin

Yes, well the natural

Yes, well the natural progression from larger wheels is a body lift, to gain more clearance before body touches tyre. This doesnt help with the tyre/spring/chassis contact on full lock. Nothing really helps there, although wheel spacers may, as may greater offset rims. I dont know how the law looks at protruding tyres over there. Over here in Oz, its pretty much frowned apon. Spacers for on road use are illegal here, as is the tyre/chassis contact. Spacers are available. Something you may want to consider is adjusting your steering stops. You will find them behind the swivel housing, a 12mm bolt head with a 14mm lock nut. Sure, it reduces your turning circle, but it does stop the contact.
And yes, I have both body and suspension lift on my F75.

31" tyres

I am running 31x10.50 tyres on daihatsu 8.5" rims from an F78 independant on my 1990 F70 and have decent steering lock and no rubbing, the wheels do protrude slightly so I will be adding some wheelarch extensions either from a later model or making my own from rally car mudflap material. I did this on my landcruiser as it flexes and doesn't get broken offroad. I am also fitting 2" longer shackles for a little more clearance and some rock sliders to protect the sills, I am making a batch of these so will have some for sale shortly. I will post pics in the gallery as the work is done.

cheers

Dave.
