gearbox nut

Forum:

does anyone know how daihatsu solved the loosening gearbox nut problem in later fourtraks, and can i solve my notchy 2nd gear by doing this job easily

Just tighten it up, then

Just tighten it up, then spot weld it in place. Problem solved. To be honest just tightening it up usualy does the trick. The original problem was just not tightening it enough in the first place, apparently. If the nut is mangeled (sometimes the thred is stripped out) a Metro hub nut fittes.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

I have a a crunch on 2nd , am I right in thinking that the nut in question is the one on the back of the transfer box, behind the alloy cover?

Nuts

Yes, it is on the top shaft of the two, ensure you hammer the flange of the nut into the keyway securely, using a good punch, or a small but blunt chisel.
