headlight relay

Forum:

morning, can any tell me where the headlight relay is on a 91 fourtrak dl.
its either the switch or the relay playing up so going for the cheapest first.
secondly has anyone got the page from the cd manual that shows the regulator layout. its poage CH18 mine is missing.

missing

Just looked on my cd its missing to, there are several odd bits missed on some of these cd's- we probably have the same one. if i was you id whip of the steering wheel and take of the stalk and give it a good clean with wd40, from passed experience this is where ive had light switch troubles.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Dim Dip Relay

ROCKY, DOG, GUN. NEED I SAY MORE.

I dont know about the 91 DL, but the headlight or Dim/Dip relay in my DL52 TDX is mounted on the Engine bulkhead at the back of the engine bay right hand side, it is silver in colour, quite big as it needs to dissipate a lot of heat, there is a yellow warning label on mine saying "Caution Hot".
Hope this helps, I will have a look through my manual (F75) and see if I can find out about the regulator layout.

Click click click

Easiest way to find a relay is to listen for it.

With the engine off have some one turn the lights on and flick the between high and dipped beam you should then be able to hear the relay clicking.

Locate the click and you have the relay.
Hope this helps.

Have a look in the passenger

Have a look in the passenger foot well. Up behind the dash. That's where the dim dip relay is. Not sure that's actually what your after, but give it a go.
As for the lights muking about though, I'd go for cleaning tha actual contacts in the switch, on the stearing columb first. Inside a plastic box, at the base of the indicater stalk. You'll have to take the stearing wheel off to get at it. I've had two fourtraks which needed this done.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
