Hi to members, Ric from Ballarat Victoria Australia. I just got a 1994 dozer widetrack here and its giving me some hassles on fuel consumption. It's a 1.6L efi petrol with extractors (genni)2" system but I'm getting 325 km from a full tank (60 litres) . I fitted a K&N filter to help over come this. Still running a black tail pipe.
Also the RPM has at idle gone from 900 rpm to 1100 rpm after filter change. Is there something i can adjust to reduce the rpm?
I use the Dozer for gold prospecting so i need to get on this problem quickly as the cost is a killer in fuel. The engine runs beautifully but looking at the spec's at 12 litres per 100 kms i should be getting 500 kms for full tank. More with these mods I'm told. Any help from long time owners would be welcomed with many thanks. Regards Ric

Come across similar problems with K&N filters before, most likely suspect is that the air temperature sensor is not fitted inside the filter, this measures the incoming air temperature, this is usually left hanging, or is strapped to the side.
This sends the incorrect signal to the ECU, it confuses it into opting for a default setting which activates the limp home mode.
If it is not this, get a full diagnostic check on the system, and recalibrate it to account for the additional flow from the K&N filter.
Had one last week on a BMW, to fit the sensor, I simply found a rubber sleeve, cut a hole in the rubber of the filter, stuck the rubber tube in with bicycle innertube repair glue, and put the sensor into the sleeve, with the end in the airflow.
Problem prior to filter fitting
Thanks,Assassin. This problem was ther when i bought it but i will locate the air sensor and relocate it in the back of the filter.
