Forum:
Hello all,
well i went out to my jeep this morning and turned her over
and she was dead, she passed away in her sleep, as when
i jump started her she popped the cam belt what damage
could i have caused?? is she worth repairing or shall i look
on E-BaY for new one?? i have a Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8TD G reg
she loved Bures and she didnt quit one bit and anything a
Land Rover (excuse my language) could do my little Beanie
could do, she even went onto the Land Rover (excuse my
language again) Grave Yard and came out alive.
Any info would be appreciated

Belt Up
Most likely you have done little damage as the engine was being cranked and not running, to find out the extent of the damage you will have to strip the engine.
Bent valves will be the most likely, if these have hit the piston, valve guides may also sustain damage.
Pistons may sustain damage, as may the con rods, visibly check the pistons for damage, and check the pistons protrusion to check for bent con rods.
Cam shaft damage is possible, but usually unlikely as they are fairly durable pieces of kit, damage to the big end and main bearings is also a possibility, but again unlikely.
Stripping the engine will give you the information to decide on a repair or replacement, if replacing, look out for an engine still in a vehicle being broken, this will allow you to start it and run it to ascertain its condition before parting with any money.
Thank You
I will be stripping it on Wed-Thurs so i will see how
bad it is and will post the extent here.
i'm just hoping to get it done by the 23rd
You're welcome
You're welcome
it hurts
A cambelt going is a horrible thing i feel for you, i try and get mine changed way before the factory said date. I go to bures to quite alot in the winter and spring but dont recall seeing you and beanie, ive got the red g reg f70 with all lights, stickers, winch on etc, theres a couple of fairly recent dirty pics of it from bures on image gallery, any way my point is if you go to bures i live about fifteen twenty mins west of it, and keep a scrapper f70 all with working eveything, apart from engine is N/a not turbo cos its an e reg, i dont know how youll get on but if you are really desperate for parts there is chance i might be able to help, but im no full on engine expert so i dont know how swoppable valves etc are, but i just thought id say hello, hopefully catch up at bures, does anyone else on this site go?we should all go as a club one day, hope you get it fixed!!!
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

She hopefully will be done by the 23rd m8 and i will keep an

eye out for you at Bures, i will either be in Beanie or my
dads Booger (green Daihatsu) or the Frontera which aint got

WELL ITS NOW 15:03pm
The engine is in pieces
and all looks well apart from the

rust that ate my cam belt }:) , but im now in the process
of waiting for my NEW cam belt to be delivered.. woohoo
the cam belt plastic cover had been eaten away by the bottom
pulley and allowed water to get in and rust everything up
soooo i rang my local DAIHATSU Dealer and i nearly fainted..
for the peice of plastic covering the cam belt was....
£120.63 inc VAT
but i had a word with my mate down his workshop and he might
have a DAIHATSU engine down there i can swipe the cover off.
Thank you for everyones help,
Martin
